Winder Dairy, one of Utah’s oldest businesses is trying to stay fresh with a new, expanded product line. The company, which has been delivering farm-fresh dairy products to homes for 125 years, has changed its name from Winder Dairy to Winder Farms to reflect its broadened product offerings.

“We really believe there’s an opportunity to take our reputation for very fresh, very good tasting milk and bread products and expand it into other products and services,” said Eric Jacobsen, chief operating officer of Winder Farms.

Jacobsen said Winder Farms would become “a farmer’s market on wheels,” offering fresh squeezed juice, lemonade, fruit, vegetables, prepared salads and seasonal food including turkey, ham and pies.

“We’re trying to get as many of these products through a local company as we can. We want to get these products from the local marketplace,” Jacobsen said.

The company currently delivers to more than 17,000 homes along the Wasatch Front, and in Tooele, Park City, Heber City, Cedar City and St. George and has made over 87 million deliveries since 1880. For the first 48 years, delivery drivers traveled the streets in horse-drawn wagons.

“Celebrating 125 years for any business is a remarkable thing,” said Gov. Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. “As the oldest dairy in Utah, [Winder Farms is] valued as an important contributor to Utah’s business, agricultural, social and civic life throughout the Wasatch Front and beyond.”

To commemorate Winder Farms’ anniversary, the West Valley city council issued a proclamation declaring Sept 18-24 as Winder Farms week in the city. As West Valley City’s oldest business still in operation, Winder Farms employs over 175 workers and is one of the top 25 sales tax providers for the city.

Six generations of Winders have managed and operated the dairy. However, Winder Farms recently formed partnerships with outside investors Dolphin II and Peterson Partners to help it expand into new markets with additional products.
