Why no added hormones?

All animals have naturally occuring growth hormones (including chickens, cows, and even us!).  Unfortunately, in this profit-driven corporate world, many dairies choose to inject their cows with artificial growth hormones to make the cows produce more milk.  This synthetic hormone is known as recombinant bovine somatotropin (rBST) or recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH).

We believe milk should be made the old fashioned way, and we pay a premium to our farmers for all natural milk made without growth hormones added. Our farmers serve their cows a traditional diet and keep them in the most sanitary conditions, to ensure consistent farm-fresh goodness. The only difference between milk from our farms and organic milk is a certification verifying the food eaten by the cows is organic.

After much corporate lobbying, the FDA approved rBGH in 1994 and claims that no significant difference has been shown between milk derived from rBGH-treated and non-rBGH treated cows.  Nonetheless, many people around the world share our animal and public health concerns about using rBGH.  In fact, it is banned from use in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the European Union.  Many quality companies such as Starbuck's, Ben and Jerry's, and Winder Farms choose NOT to use milk from cows treated with rBGH.

This is why many parents choose to serve Winder Farms' all natural milk to their families!  Thanks for supporting us in this decision by being a customer.
